POWER OF PERSUASION

GMS President Mohyal Ratna Rzd. B.D. Bali in his New Year Message, while conveying his best wishes to all members of the fraternity, has very comprehensively elaborated the future developmental agenda before the community. He has sought the active roles of the youth and the ladies in the affairs of the community as well as of all the elders. The local sabhas have a great responsibility in this regard for they are the ones at the grass roots level to organize, harness and identify areas where viable assistance or help is needed.

It is a fact the GMS is the repository of the Mohyali Ethos and Spirit and has created wide and meaningful awakening amongst the rank and file of the community members, yet a lot remains to be done to inspire and come up to the aspirations of our people spread in the far corners of the country and abroad.

GMS, under the stewardship of the dynamic and visionary leadership of Bali Sahib has built prestigious institutions, the living legends, for posterity, i.e. our future generations. These last twenty years have indeed been the golden period of our history.

Even our founding fathers could not have ever imagined that the sapling, the GMS, would have blossomed, flowered, so spectacularly and with deep roots and on strong financial footings.

We are fortunate to be led by our President Rzd. B.D. Bali, the embodiment of grace, compassion and piety, imbued with fraternity obsession, our modern day Vishwakarma, the great builder. His power of persuasion was there for all to witness when Bali Sahib exhorted the large number of Ludhiana Mohyals to build their own Mohyal Bhawan, emphasizing that he was prepared to go along with them to meet the highest officials or Ministers for allotment of a plot for their Bhawan. The response and acclamation from the huge gathering was outstanding. Incredible indeed. The first donation to the Ludhiana Bhawan was by our President, Sir Bali Sahib.

PROMISES....

Through the ages, the wise and the elders have said "Think hard before promising anything, small or big- but once having made a promise, go to any lengths to keep it." The enormity of the wisdom behind this often escapes us. Being human, many of us do slip up on this count at one time or another, and what follows are the inevitable feelings of pain, remorse, and -in only a few cases- reconciliation and resolution. Mohyals extol steadfast loyallty as one of their core values, so such feelings only get magnified when measured against the standards we traditionally set for ourselves. Emotions being synonymous with poetry, here is an attempt by me to portray in verse form, how such feelings unfold and impact:

Even after many years,
I lie awake on nights..
silently battling-tears,
guilt and a pain that bites.

In the darkness around me
and through moist eyes
I can, somehow, clearly see,
understand and realize

that though separate,
individual and human,
we really
are only one

for, the pain
that rips my heart through
is the same pain
that I once caused you

by letting go of your hand
when I only should have
held it, and helped you stand
what is done
is done,
the past never
does return,

the least I will do
in my remaining years
is to pray for you.

P.L. Bali on December 28, 2007 he could see a very large gathering of mourners who besides Delhi had come from different parts of India. All present were unanimous in uttering, that “PL Bali sahib ek bauhuat ache insaan the”. He said that in the death of Shri P.L. Bali “we have lost a very good friend and the void left is very difficult to fill”. After the President Shri G.L. Dutta (Josh), Vice President (GMS) spoke briefly about his association with Shri P.L. Bali in the affairs of the Interaction Committee of the GMS. He said that Shri Bali was always with him in his ventures of visits to different local sabhas for the Committee work. There were two games of Tombola enjoyed by all. Then a formal regular meeting was held, Presided by Col. N.C. Dutta, Sabha’s Vice-President and acting President. Shri R.L. Vaid had resigned as President due to personal reasons last year.

Col. Dutta welcomed all and wished them happy New Year and Lohri. Our new member, Shri & Smt. Nirav Bali and in-laws of Col. Sanjeev Datta were introduced to the members. He then asked Shri V.M. Mohan, President (Trust) to address the gathering.

Shri Mohan requested all to stand up in silence for two minutes to pay our Shradhanjali to the late Shri P.L. Bali, Secy. Finance, GMS who passed away on 18th De., ‘07. He said that Bali ji was a very dedicated, devoted and unassuming person, a rarity in Mohyal fraternity, who talks less and does all the work silently.

Shri Mohan wished all a happy New Year and Lohri and welcomed guests and newcomer Bali parivar. He especially welcomed Shri & Smt. R.L. Vaid for joining the celebrations, his first appearance after resigning from Presidentship. He spoke briefly about the history of the Sabha and recounted how late Lt. Yadonathji and he had met late Shantinandan Bakshi in January 1977 and had decided to form the local Sabha. The first meeting was held at the residence of Shri Bakshi on 13.2.1977. Eleven members attended the same. Shri Bakshi was elected as President, Lt. Yadonathji was elected as Vice-President and self was commanded to be the Secretary. It was decided to subscribe Rs.60/- annually and to the Sabha was formed. From then till today we have been meeting regularly without a break.

He recollected that we had celebrated the decennial of our Sabha at Fateh Maidan Club in great style. He said that though there are many Sabhas older than us, we were the first to organize Silver Jubilee of our Sabha in a grand style for two consecutive days i.e. 12th 13th Jan. 2002. Many Mohyal stalwarts including Rzd. B.D. Bali-GMS President, participated in our celebrations on both the days. Our other achievement has been that even though our number is small, we decided to have our own Mohyal Bhawan with a modern guest room.

Shri Mohan regretted that for the past many months, proceedings of our regular meetings are not being sent for publication to Mohyal Mitter. But we meet regularly and have a monthly kitty of 18 members @ Rs.1500/- per month. The winner donates Rs.800/- to the Trust besides hosting the regular meeting.

He then presented the accounts of MS Hyderabad/Secunderabad from 2002 to 2007, audited by Maj. M.L. Mehta. He said that the Trust accounts are audited and certified by a Chartered Accountancy firm every year and presented to the IT department. The same are also presented in a regular meetings.
