Limca Book of Records: Mohyal Mitter, our monthly magazine, has been recognized by the Limca Book of Records, as the oldest running magazine in India. Golden Jubilee Anniversary: Our President, Mohyal Ratna Rzd. B.D. Bali and, his wife, Smt. Nita Bali, entered their Golden Jubilee Anniversary year on the 1st March 2008. There was a grand celebration of the event at their residence, which was attended by a select gathering of prominent Mohyals and the office bearers of the GMS. The couple has celebrated their Golden Jubilee Wedding Anniversary on the 1st March 2009. We wish them a happy, long and fulfilling life, in the service of the community and society at large. MC Meetings: The Managing Committee of the General Mohyal Sabha met 10 times during 2008. There was no meeting of the Committee in October and November, 2008, because of the Prathibhashali Vidyarthi Award function, and the 4th Mohyal Diwas , organized during these months. The first MC Meeting of 2009 was held on the 11th January 2009, wherein decision was taken to perform the Bhoomi Pujan and Foundation Stone laying ceremony for the Mohyal Ashram Vrindavan, on the 14th February 2009. The next MC Meeting is scheduled for the 8th February 2009. Financial Aid to Widows: During 2008, financial aid was given by the GMS to around 220 destitute widows. About 30 physically handicapped persons were also given financial relief during the year. The financial aid is being remitted to the widows and others, once in two months, by Money Order. Scholarships to students: In addition to the scholarships instituted by some companies such as Mount Shivalik Breweries etc., GMS also extends help to students belonging to economically weaker sections for prosecuting their studies right from class 5 to collegiate and technical studies. Langar Fund Donations: Donation for serving free langar at the Mohyal Ashram Haridwar has been popular not only with Mohyals, but non-Mohyals also. The donation for each occasion, which is Rs. 11000/-, is given to commemorate birthdays, marriage anniversaries, death anniversaries of one’s near and dear etc. The number of such donations has almost reached 1000 and is expected to cross that magical figure in a couple of months’ time. Vrindavan Ashram: Land, measuring about 2500 sq. yds., has been purchased at the Ashram Vihar Complex, Vrindavan for construction of a Mohyal Ashram there. This Ashram also will have the same, if not better, facilities, as at the Mohyal Ashram, Haridwar, including Langar Fund, Meditation Hall, library etc. The rate of Langar Fund donation will be the same as at Haridwar, i.e., Rs. 11000/-. Donation for a room is Rs. 2.50 lakhs and for a suite, Rs. 3.50 lakhs. The Bhoomi Pujan and Foundation stone laying ceremony of Mohyal Ashram Vrindavan was held on the 14th February 2009 at 11.30 A.M. Major KR Bali Mohyal Nursery School, Dehradun: GMS has been running this Nursery School, since the last one year, on the property at Dehradun, bequeathed to it by the late Smt. Kaushalya Rani Bali w/o the late Major K.R. Bali. The school is becoming popular in the area and it has, at present, about 75 children on its rolls. Action is being taken to get the school registered with the local educational authorities at Dehradun. The school is being run as a temporary arrangement, pending the probate of the Will of Smt. Kaushalya Rani Bali, and, once the probate is received, proper plan of utilization of the property will be decided. Bereavements: We lost some of the Mohyal stalwarts towards the end of 2007 and during 2008. (1) Shri P.L. Bali, Secretary Finance, GMS, a selfless and sincere worker, left us suddenly on the 18th December 2007. He was also the Secretary of the Mohyal Sabha, Yamunapaar, Delhi. His ever-smiling face and benign presence is being missed by all. (2) Major Amar Nath Chhibber of Meerut left for his heavenly abode on the 14th March 2008. He was a widower, his wife, Smt. Nirmal Kumari, having predeceased him in 2003. He had no other heir. Through his last Will & Testament, he has left all his movable and immovable properties, including his house in Meerut, to the GMS, for being used in the best interest of the community. (3) Young Vimal Bali, the bright and youthful son of our Secretary (PR), Shri Ashwani Bali, suddenly passed away on the 25th April 2008, in the prime of his youth. He was a computer aficionado and a sincere social worker, who used to be very active in all the major events organized by the GMS. His death is a big loss not only to his family, but also to the GMS and the entire Mohyal community. (4) Brig. Ravi Datt Mehta (Dutta), one of the brightest officers of the Indian Army, was killed in a terrorist (suicide) attack at the Indian Embassy in Kabul on the 7th July 2008. His funeral in the crematorium at Brar Square, Delhi Cantt., was attended by senior Army officers, including the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Deepak Kapoor. GMS also was represented by its Vice President, Secretary General etc. President GMS was out of station and sent his Condolence Message to the bereaved family. (5) Shri Budh Dev Datta, Pioneer Builder of the Mohyal Foundation, who had supervised the construction of Phase I of Mohyal Foundation, New Delhi, passed away on the 14th September 2008. He had been Senior Vice President of the GMS and was closely associated with the Mohyal Education Society also, in various capacities. His contribution to the GMS was laudable and the coming generations of Mohyals will be beholden to him forever. |
