Good human being learn good thing from others. Ethics flows from heart and that help to shape our habits.
Our great visionaries & seers like Swamis Vivekananda, Ramatirath and others went to western countries including USA as ambassadors of India to enrich those communities with our value systems & ethos. They also tried to cultivate ethics as a part of normal habit in them. It is not surprising to note that a number of books are being written on these subjects in these countries now. Also one notes a general trend in these communities including their leaders to promote and adopt our value systems.
For example: According to Religion Editor of News-Week, Lisa Miller “recent poll data show that conceptually, at last we are slowly becoming more like Hindus …..”. Even Barack Obama has appointed Anju Bhargava a banker & priest in White House to demystify Hindu Philosophy.
On the contrary our youth are blindly trying to follow western culture just for materialistic gains. We have no intention to defy any culture, but one is stressing that our youth should analyze, take the best and discard those that are not part of the ethics.
In this note, I plan to discuss three four lettered words, which guide our actions. These are “Hate, Fear & the Love”. I believe, right from inception, these three words have shaped the destinies and actions of the specie of our homo-sapiens.
If you hate a person, a thing or a subject of studies, you will call it bad. This bad message will get imprinted in your memory cell. That will remain bad , even any thing/person related to that also will be bad .Thus if you don’t like mathematics, it is bad , even teacher is bad, or vice –a -versa. All battles & wars have been fought on the basis of hatred & greed. You have to just change your attitude, memory cells will align automatically and you will start enjoying that.
Next important negative word is “FEAR”. Fear of unknown. If we take any action, just out of fear of boss, mom or teacher, you cannot enjoy that action. You are under pressure .For example, if I tell my son, “If you do not pray, God will be angry”. The result will be a mechanical action and no joy. Same thing can be about studies or exercise. Our elders tell us to act without fear and do not put any one else under the sword of fear. Under fear you may mechanically do certain acts, but that will not be converted into habit. For that to happen, the action must be voluntary.
Now we come to the last important word, “Love”. That is the most beautiful word and it’s godly. If you love your work, subject or the action you are taking, it is no more a burden but a source of enjoyment. If earlier, I feared Mathematics and today I find the beauty & rhythm in the subject, I will love it and explore its new vistas. I will, then not fall prey to unethical practice of cheating or cramming. With the love, I also cultivate ethics. If do not hate any one or have no fear, my all actions are bound to be ethical.
I have heard Love word often used by our president Mr B.D.Bali in meetings. Through his message of love, he is able to inspire & motivate the community. We salute him from our heart. We can win through true love.
I will conclude this note with a small story.
His All of you has heard about the story of Yudhishter, the eldest son of Pandava. He stayed on his first lesson experimenting on speaking truth.
Today I am relating a story of another child. A teacher of Mathematics gave six questions as homework to be done without help. Next day teacher found that only one student by the name Gopal Krishan had all questions correct. The teacher was very happy and invited the child to the dais and presented him a prize. Instead of taking the prize, the little child started crying and begged for punishment, because, he had taken some help from a friend to solve one of the questions. The teacher was, even happier. He said now I give you this prize for truthfulness. You know, who was this child? This was Gopal Krishan Gokhale, a great freedom fighter, whom even Gandhi Ji considered as his Guru.
Gokhale ji as a child did not fear and told the truth, this is ethics.
Every one of us is constantly in the act of creating oneself. One needs to learn how to turn negative experience of life into positive. Or in other words how to convert hate & fear into love. It is just an attitude and if we can convert hatred & fear into love and all things would look beautiful creation of almighty.
