MOHYAL MITTER

THE PRESIDENT’S CLARION CALL

THE President’s Nine Point Action Mantra is a clarion call, deemed as the Nine Point Commandments, impacting on the deep concerns, social and moral obligation and prime responsibility of the General Mohyal Sabha, our Apex Body, towards the community at large.

In an emotional address our President expressed his profound sense of gratitude for the confidence, high regard and “love and affection bestowed on me by all of you, and feel heartened by your unanimous approval for the various projects espoused by the GMS and by the Grace of God Almighty...........”

The President Rzd. B.D. Bali, our mentor, has spoken out his heart and very coherently spelled out the tasks before the community, tasks adumbrated in the Nine Point Action Plan, encompassing a wide range of subjects. A heavy responsibility devolves on the leaders of the Local Sabhas to spread the message of the Nine Point Action Plan and to strive to the utmost for its implementation in letter and spirit.

We have embarked on a sacred and ambitious mission to fulfill the aspirations of our youth and the coming generations. Youth are enterprising, innovative, the arbiters of change. It up to us to inspire them to achieve and to reach their goals of life, and to assume responsibilities of managing community affairs.

We are on the right road to progress, and fortunate, that we have a leader, ennobled with the rare instinct to understand the hardships felt by the underprivileged members of the fraternity and to restore a sense of optimism, to wipe the tears of the lowliest amongst us. Our efforts should be sustained, continuous and foccused on achieving our objective of a vibrant, cohesive brotherhood. The GMS decision to set up a Career Counselling Committee is indeed a laudable step, for education is one’s biggest asset and wealth.

We are at the cross roads of an historic moment and proud participants charged with the responsibility to implement the Magna Carta (Charter) envisioned by our President Mohyal Ratna Rzd. B.D. Bali.

GRACIOUS GESTURE

In response to the President’s Clarion Call, the first Sabha which has responded to the Call is Mohyal Sabha Pitampura / Rohini which has handed over a handsome donation of Rupees one lac one thousand to the President in the GMS Managing Committee Meeting held on 14th June 09, collected by them from all the members of their Sabha towards the Mohyal Ashram Vrindavan. This is a very laudable effort which should be emulated by other Sabhas to pool up their resources and be a part of the great institution. —N.D.D

DONATION FOR MOHYAL ASHRAM VRINDAVAN

Respected Mohyal Ratna Rzd. B.D. Bali ji

We the members of Mohyal Sabha Rohini/Pitampura, Delhi had the privilege to attend, in the large numbers, the Bhumi Punjan and Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony on 14.02.09 of Mohyal Ashram Vrindavan, another feather in the cap of GMS. It is all due to your foresigntedness and honest and dedicated approach to all the projects completed so far. In your address to the participants at the function, you had apprised them that about 3.5 crores will be required for the construction of the Ashram and conveyed your earnest desire that this cost be met from the donations of the Mohyal Biradari, no matter whether it is a big or small donation. You had also desired that more and more people should contribute for this noble cause. In response to your appeal to the Biradari, funds are pouring in fast.

Our sabha also wants to take part in this noble cause and we have collected Rs.101000/- from our members for this purpose which is sent herewith.

We assure you, sir, that Rohini/Pitampura Sabha will work shoulder to shoulder with GMS under your guidance as has been done in the past.

Kindly accept this humble contribution from our sabha.

NOSTALGIC REMINISCENCES

Dear Sir,

The title page of Mohyal Mitter for the month of April, 2009 published the photograph containing several couples who were lucky to enjoy the pleasures of their Anniversary with the Grace of Almighty. I am familiar with the prominent faces Smt. Nita Bali and Shri B.D. Bali with the most appropriate caption “Mohyal Ratna Rzd. B.D. Bali and Smt. Nita Bali’’. I pray to Almighty Lord Rama to bestow his choicest blessings on the couples in the photo so that they may enjoy more such pleasures in future.

Now, personally, the photograph of Mohyal Ratna Rzd. B.D. Bali and Smt. Nita Bali has emotionally taken me decades back, when I was invited for a discourse on Shri Ramayana in W-39, Greater Kailash-I, New Delhi-110048. I still remember that the whole atmosphere was charged with deep spirituality. Every member of the family was moving with ecstasy and I was thanking Lord Rama, from the core of my heart, for providing me with such a rare occasion in a household. Of course, the theme of Shri Ram Katha was enjoyed by everybody present. After the formalities like lunch etc., I returned to my residence and wrote my heartiest feelings in a letter to respected Rzd. B.D. Bali.

After years, the second time I met respected Rzd. B.D. Bali was on the sad demise of my most lovable Punjabi Poet, Sh. Jitender Nath Bali, who used to respectfully call me “Guru Ji’’.

After this, the only opportunity, which revived my respect for the ideal couple, was through the most fascinating title page of Mohyal Mitter for the month of April, 2009, depicting the lucky “Anniversary Couple’’ being mentioned as “Mohyal Ratna Rzd. B.D. Bali and Smt. Nita Bali’’.

My purpose in writing this letter is to thank the Executive Editor Shri N.D. Datta, and his colleagues, for providing an old man like me an opportunity to pray to the Almighty Lord Rama to bestow His blessings on the most religious couple, so that they may continue their sacred work of uplifting and uniting the Mohyal Brahmins.

These are my personal feelings which your title page aroused.

Thought for parents from Dr. Rattan K Datta

“Dear Students & the parents
Let us remember that we are today at the stage mostly because of the strength of Indians in the field of Basic Sciences & Mathematics. George Bush was scared then and today President Obama talks of our strength. It is not because of our technological or engineering skills but scientific and math skills.

For skills in Basic math and science, we need to thank to some extent our genes and to a great extent our First Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru who encouraged youth to go for science education. He established a number of scientific labs, honored scientists. The scientists’ pay scales were fixed even higher than the scales of IAS officers, though today these are not so. He used to state that for scientists he wants the best.

Scientists are the backbone of a country and without their discoveries the technology will become obsolete. So, Pt Nehru’s scientific temper is required to encourage India’s progress for which more emphasis should be given for Basic science and Math.

We therefore would like to urge the parents to encourage their wards to choose science stream and scientific temper.”

Regrets: Maj. S.S. Datta, expressed his inability to attend the meeting.

The minutes of meeting held on the 3rd May, 09, were read out and confirmed with the following corrections:
Under the head “Sad News” the name of Sunil Bali was inadvertently mentioned, which may be corrected to read as Anil Bali s/o the late Capt. J.L. Bali. The error is deeply regretted.

While confirming the minutes, the members drew the attention to the footnote printed below the minutes of the sabha published on page-19 of June issue of MM. The members took strong exception to the addition of footnote under the minutes of the sabha without ascertaining the factual position from the President/Secretary of the sabha who had sent the minutes for publication. The footnote states, “Sh. Sandeep Datta has since submitted his resignation from MS Janakpuri” is factually incorrect as he is a Life Member of the Sabha and has not resigned from the sabha as stated in the footnote. He has submitted resignation from the Working Committee of the Sabha in a fit of anger after heated discussions with one of the members, soon after the meeting was over thereby showing discourtesy to the host family and to the Chair. The resignationof Sandeep Datta is an internal matter of the Sabha and the decision on the same has been kept in abeyance till the return of the President from Hyderabad and as such the addition of the footnote while publishing the minutes was not desirable. The members desired that the Secretary may suitably and politely convey the sentiments of the house with the request that a proper corrigendum deleting the footnote be issued to set the facts in proper perspective. (Sh. Sandeep Datta had informed the Editor MM in writing, that he had resigned from MS Janakpuri and what had been stated in the footnote is factually correct. Whether his resignation is to be accepted or not is to be decided by MS Janakpuri. Editor MM).

PASCHIM VIHAR

Date: 31st May, 2009
Venue: Gopinath Lalji Mandir, A-4, Paschim Vihar, N. Delhi.
Attendance: No figure.
In Chair: Shri B.L. Lowe, Acting President.

The meeting started on a sombre note, the sabha having suffered a heavy blow in the death of its dedicated Secretary, Shri K.D. Mehta of Block A-4, Paschim Vihar on May 9, 2009. The void created was deeply felt throughout the meeting.

Paying homage to the departed noble soul, the Acting President Shri B.L. Lowe, recalled the untiring and selfless services of Shri Mehta to the Mohyal Biradari as well as the community at large. An ex-Serviceman, Sh. Mehta was devoted to social service and was a driving force of the sabha. He will be missed for a long time. Paschim Vihar will be poorer by his absence.

Earlier, the Acting President had informed that the Founder-President of the sabha Shri N.L. Bali had laid down his office for certain compelling personal reasons. The sabha had thus been deprived of both the key office-bearers and consequently, its work had been seriously affected. Apart from shouldering responsibility for organising the day-to-day activities of the sabha, maintenance of records and accounts, handling of cash, bank transactions and the like required regular incumbents. As such, he stated that the sabha should hold early election and induct the new executive as expeditiously as possible.

Treasurer Shri M.L. Dutta underlined the need for electing a new President and Secretary for authorsing expenditure and operating the bank account.

S/Shri Shashi Chhibber, V.K. Bali, and O.D. Bakshi, among others, emphasised the need for marching forward with renewed zeal on the path shwon by the late Shri K.D. Mehta. That would be the best tribute to him indeed, was the consensus. Smt. Neerja Chhibber added that members should willingly come forward to strengthen the sabha. Shri O.P. Dutta suggested there should be regular communication to motivate members of the sabha to participate in its tasks.

The meeting concluded with the recitation of Gayatri Mantra and two-minutes’ silence in honour of Shri K.D. Mehta.

It was decided to hold a special meeting of the sabha on 14 June, 2009, to chalk out the programme for fresh election to install a new executive.

MOTHER’S DAY

Every year on the 10th May, Mother’s Day is celebrated all over the world to pay our gratitude to this sacred and noble relationship. She is the embodiment of love and affection for her children. All the important religions of this world hold the mothers in high esteem and praise the relationship. She is described as living goddess in every home. One old filmy song says “Aey maa teri surat se alag Bhagwan ki surat kya hogi’’.

A Sanskrit Shlok from our Hindu holy scriptures says “Janani Janmabhoomischa swargadapi gariyasi’’, which means that mother and motherland are superior to even heaven. Bible says that since Almighty the could not possibly reach every home, he created the Holy Mother. Islaam also holds the same sentiments and says “Aey Maa Terey Kadmon Mein Hain Jannat Key Nishan, Kayam Rahe Sada Saya Tera’’. A Punjabi couplet says “Mavan Thandyan Chhavan’’.

Mother is solely responsible for the creation and upbringing of her children, during her 9 months’ pregnancy and, later, feeding them with her own milk. She is the first Guru of her children, as they learn their Mathrubhasha.

All female figures in this world, worthy of worship, are addressed with the holy prefix Maa, such as Motherland, Maa Durga, Maa Saraswati, Maa Sawaswati, Maa Ganga etc.

Having been closely associated with Old Age Homes, I have been rather disappointed to observe the increasing trend in our society to dump old parents in such Homes by their own children. I felt like crying when, at one time, I saw one old widowed mother being brought to a “Vridh Ashram’’ by her affluent son.

We should create awareness in our society to stop this evil practice. In this context, our Mohyal Sabha and their Ladies/Youth Wings can play an important role and emphasize this point in their monthly meetings.

MS Ambala City, under the dynamic leadership of Shri J.P. Mehta, has been doing excellent work to remove these social evils and can act as a role model.

THE HUMAN BODY IS A
MARVALLOUS CREATION

Nothing in this world can happy by accident. Some one, somewhere has to be there to co-ordinate everything happening around us, good or bad since every action has a reason, irrespective of its consequences, on our life and our happiness.

The human body is a morvellous creation and everything works with clock-like precision. One day, something happens and the body becomes limp and comes to a standstill. We promounce the individual dead. If one disects the body and figures what was there before and what has gone away, makes all the difference between life and death.

There is no explanation, since everything that is supposed to be inside the body, is inside it even after death. There is no explanation for this phenomenon. And we have no explanation for the power which propels and controls the events of the world and God is a convenient term to address this cosmic force.

In no other profession we have the unique opportunity to lake someone to the brink of death and bring one back to life. What is the reason for this outcome. For a surgeon, success or failure are not because of him, but because of Him, the Maker. For if all responsibilities are handed over to Him and work in His name one can do wonders. Therefore chant His name, and abide by Hims!

DEATH THE ULTIMATE BOON

While we are, death is not, when it has come we are not. It is a false belief that it only follows. It also precedes lfie. It is as before we were born. Death is the end of all sorrow. It either secures happiness or ends suffering. It frees the slave from its cruel master, the prison doors, calms the qualms of pain, closes the struggle of poverty. It is the last and best boon of Nature, for it frees man from all cares.

Paschim Vihar Mohyal Sabha loses a veteran: Secretary Sh. K.D. Mehta passes away–
A Tribute to the Noble Soul:

The Paschim Vihar Mohyal Sabha (PVSM), New Delhi lost its Founder–Secretary Shri Kushal Dev Mehta on May 9, 2009. Sh. Mehta, a war veteran complained of sudden uneasiness and giddiness and was taken to the hospital, where he breathed his last. Uthavani was performed on May 12, 2009, which turned into a meeting of deep condolences and rich tributes to Sh. Metha.

Shri K.D. Mehta (78) was a very popular and highly respected person in Paschim Vihar. He was an untiring social worker. Various organisations, social groups, individuals and political leaders recalled his sterling qualities of head and heart, strong leadership, ardent social work and his passion for taking up the causes of social benefit. They described him as a genuine, true Vrikshamitra as he had a passion for protecting the environment. They recalled him with gratitude as he, with his own hands, had planted trees, watered and nurtured them and raised protective fences and concrete girders around them. There are now rows of full-grown trees in the locality– lovely symbols of Sh. Mehta’s memory.

The area MLA, Sh. Malaram Gangwal, described Sh. Mehta as a father figure and said he always turned to Sh. Mehta for his wise and mature advice. Sh. Baldev Lowe, President MS Paschim Vihar said that the sabha was, in fact, the creation of Sh. Mehta as he single-handedly went around the area, located the Mohyals, inspired them to come together and brought them on in one forum just 1-1/2 years back. He stated that Sh. Mehta’s death was a personal loss for him as he always benefitted from his mature advice Sh. Lowe said the sabha would strive to carry forward the work, which Sh. Mehta had started.

GMS had sent its Vice-President Sh. G.L. Dutta ‘Josh’ and Secretary PR, Sh. Ashwani Bali, to convey condolences to the Mehta family. Sh. ‘Josh’ described Sh. Mehta as a true Mohyal, as he had, with his sole efforts, founded MS Paschim Vihar. Sh. Josh urged the area Mohyals to nurture the sabha further, as this would be the best tribute to Sh. Mehta. He said all living beings, including humans, are mortal, but immortals are those who leave behind a beautiful legacy of good work, from which the society and the community benefit for times to come. Shri Mehta’s name would remain alive, as a dedicated, spirited Mohyal.

The family of Sh. Mehta donated Rs.500/- each to the GMS and the local sabha in his memory.—Baldev Lowe, President MS Paschim Vihar.

Never the Like Again

SHRI A.C. BALI (15.4.1906-01.07.1963): A top journalist, a former News Editor of The Tribune and a leading Congressman of United Punjab, Shri A.C. Bali was admired and loved for his kindness, his modesty, his integrity and, above all, his quality of quiet leadership in his nearly three decades of intimate association with the Tribune. He had joined the profession at a time when journalism was a mission, and not a trade or industry.

Bali ji had been tipped for Chief Ministership in the United Punjab and later a Cabinet berth in the Central Govt. by Pt. Nehru. He had politely refused this saying that he could serve the masses better in his present position. To him, politics, like journalism, was another opportunity for public service and never a means of personal aggrandisement. Sadly, he died in harness at the age of 58.

We pray to Almighty God to keep Bali ji’s soul in His Kingdom.

In his memory, Rs.101/- is donated to GMS for Ashram Fund.–Satish Bali (son), Chetna Bali (grand daughter) Kurukshetra.

SMT. SOMA DEVI CHHIBBER (VAID) AND SMT. ISHRAN DEVI: On the Barsis of my mother, the late Smt .Soma Devi Chhibber (Vaid), (21.04.1972-2009), w/o the late Shri D.K. Bhai Chhibber, Chief Engineer and of my Taiji, the late Smt. Ishran Devi, (24.04.1955 - 2009) w/o the late Bhai Sardar Singh ji Chhibber of Kariyala. I donate Rs.250/- each to the GMS Widow Fund.

Both my mother, Smt. Soma Devi and Taiji, Smt. Ishran Devi had expired at Mullana, near Ambala Cantt.—Madan Mohan Singh Bhai, 61-C, Troika Apts., 3rd Cross Road, Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri (W), Mumbai-400053, Tel.: 022-26363116, 9920208026.

SMT. SUDERSHAN MEHTA: The fifth Barsi of Smt. Sudershan Mehta w/o Mehta Pran Nath was observed on the 10th May, 2009. Sunderkand Path was held along with Kirtan in the morning, followed by serving of Brahm Bhoj to the Brahmins and to all those present.

Smt. Sudershan was a god- fearing and strong-willed person. She was an ardent devotee of Shri Satya Sai Baba and had been visiting the Prashanti Nilayam for Kar-Seva every year from the 1st to 15th Aug., along with Kar-Sewaks from Haryana during 1996 to 2005. Even when she was not keeping well, she did her duty with devotion. During the last moments of her life, she became physically very weak but she remained emotionally strong and God’s name was on her lips all along. A few minutes before her death, she repeatedly asked to be put down on the floor, as she felt her end was near but we could not understand her, as she was in her perfect senses.

She is survived by her husband, Sh. Pran Nath Mehta, and three daughters and their families. Her eldest daughter is Smt. Pratibha and son-in-law Harish Bali, grandson Ashish and grand daughter-in-law Bhawana and great grand daughter Vedika, grand daughters Sonu, Upasana and Aradhna, grand-sons-in-law Sunil Datta, Ajay Chaudhari, great grand-daughters Arushi, Ahrohi and Pari, her second daughter, Sangeeta and son-in-law Anil Chhibber and grandsons Varun and Rishabh, her youngest daughter, Anuradha and son-in-law Rajeev Vaid and grandsons Prateek and Yuvraj.

She was ‘Badi Mummy’ to the children of her brother-in-law, Sh. Vishwa Nath Mehta, whose wife Smt. Pushpa Mehta and she were very close to each other. She is remembered by her nephew, Sh.
